Hi, I’m Kaylee - a Korean American living in Seoul.
I spent the first five years of my post-college life working as a back-end software engineer. During the pandemic, I moved back in with my parents in a remote log cabin in Vermont and started a podcast and YouTube channel with my sister. For as long as I can remember I have been sprinting towards some imaginary finish line. I grew my last blog, Just A Coder Thing, and was fully burnt out between that and the podcast I shared with my sister, SisterCodes.
In 2021 I moved to Boulder, CO to be with my now husband after 6 years of long distance. I started to build a real in person life and in the process discovered how burnt out I really was. In December of 2023 my husband and I sat down to look ahead at what we wanted our lives to look like. I could so easily see the track right there to stay in Boulder, buy a house, have a few kids, and continue along the so-called American dream.
The reality was, we had been outbid on 6 different homes by all-cash no inspection “investors”, we were feeling the weight of mounting health care costs even for two healthy 20 somethings, and it felt like no matter how hard we tried to save and do the right things, the benchmark for success was moving further and further out of reach. I had always wanted to live in Korea to reconnect with my family and live abroad, so we made a 6 month plan to sell most of our belongings, quit our jobs, and move to Seoul.
Fast forward to today and I am currently living in Seoul with my husband and figuring out what I want in life for the first time in a very long time. I hope you might find something here that connects with you, thanks so much for coming on this crazy journey with me!
